The Garden He Thought Would Never Perish

One of the greatest dangers in business is believing that what you built came entirely from you.

In Surah Al-Kahf, Allah سبحانه وتعالى tells us about a man who was given wealth and beautiful gardens. Instead of recognizing the One who gave him those blessings, he became proud:

“I am more than you in wealth and stronger in respect of men.”
Qur’an 18:34

He then said:

“I think not that this will ever perish.”
Qur’an 18:35

But the garden he thought would never perish was eventually destroyed.

“Mā Shā’ Allāh! There Is No Power but With Allah”

His believing companion reminded him:

“That which Allâh wills (will come to pass)! There is no power but with Allâh!”
Qur’an 18:39

That is the mindset a Muslim founder needs.

You build the product. You hire the team. You close the deal. You make the difficult decisions.

But the ability to do all of this came from Allah سبحانه وتعالى.

The idea was from Allah.
The opportunity was from Allah.
The customers were from Allah.
The ability was from Allah.

Allah سبحانه وتعالى says:

“If you give thanks... I will give you more (of My Blessings).”
Qur’an 14:7

Build With Confidence, Not Arrogance

Gratitude does not mean becoming less ambitious.

It means becoming successful without forgetting Who gave you the ability to succeed.

Say Alhamdulillah when the company grows. Remember Allah سبحانه وتعالى when people praise your work. Recognize that what you have can disappear just as quickly as it appeared.

A Muslim founder should work hard, build boldly, and pursue excellence while knowing that every blessing remains a gift from Allah سبحانه وتعالى.

What habits can founders build to make gratitude stronger as their companies grow?
