Muslims have always needed people capable of defending the truth in the public arena.
During the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, one of those men was Hassan ibn Thabit رضي الله عنه.
He was a poet.
But poetry in Arabia was far more than entertainment. It shaped reputations, carried news, defended tribes, and influenced public opinion.
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the Muslims were attacked through poetry and words, Hassan رضي الله عنه responded with words of his own.
The Prophet ﷺ said to him:
“Reply on my behalf. O Allah! Support him with the Holy Spirit.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 3212)
