The Prophet ﷺ Had a Poet. We Need Muslim Media Today.

Muslims have always needed people capable of defending the truth in the public arena.

During the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, one of those men was Hassan ibn Thabit رضي الله عنه.

He was a poet.

But poetry in Arabia was far more than entertainment. It shaped reputations, carried news, defended tribes, and influenced public opinion.

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the Muslims were attacked through poetry and words, Hassan رضي الله عنه responded with words of his own.

The Prophet ﷺ said to him:

“Reply on my behalf. O Allah! Support him with the Holy Spirit.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari 3212)

Muslim Founder Brief

daily briefing on Muslim ownership, responsibility, and disciplined building.

Think about what this represents.

The Muslims did not simply accept that their enemies would control the public narrative. They had someone capable of answering attacks, defending the Messenger ﷺ, and using the communication medium of his age.

Today, poetry has largely been replaced by television, newspapers, documentaries, podcasts, and social media.

And the lies about Islam have not disappeared.

So Muslims need their own serious media institutions.

But we should not simply copy modern media culture with a Muslim logo.

Allah سبحانه وتعالى commanded us to verify news:

“O you who believe! If a Fasiq comes to you with any news, verify it...”

(Surah Al-Hujurat 49:6)

Our media should therefore be built upon truth, verification, justice, and good character.

We need institutions so accurate that even those who disagree with us know they cannot easily dismiss our reporting.

What would a media institution built upon Islamic principles actually look like?
