Why Your Spray Marketing Isn’t Working

Spraying your marketing across every available channel is not a strategy. It is often a sign that you have not mastered any channel deeply enough.

Young founders commonly launch a product and immediately try everything: paid ads, LinkedIn, DMs, cold email, influencers, partnerships, and more. For a few weeks, the activity feels productive. Then the results fail to match the effort.

The problem is not exploring different channels. The problem is trying to operate five channels before understanding even one.

Every Channel Requires Mastery

Every marketing channel has its own skill set.

Paid advertising requires creative testing, targeting, strong offers, and conversion tracking. Organic content requires consistency, positioning, strong ideas, and an understanding of what earns attention. Outbound requires good lists, messaging, follow-up, and repetition. Partnerships require relationships, trust, and the right incentives.

You cannot give each channel two hours a week and expect to master them.

Master One Before Expanding

A better approach is simple:

Pick one channel. Study it. Implement it. Measure it. Improve it.

Stay with it long enough to understand why it works and why it fails.

You can still explore other channels, but exploration is different from execution. Do not turn every channel you test into another serious growth engine before your primary channel is working.

More channels do not automatically mean more growth.

Sometimes they simply mean more unfinished systems.

Focus Creates Mastery

Give one channel enough attention to develop real competence. Once you understand its mechanics, have a repeatable process, and can measure what drives results, you can begin expanding.

The goal is not to be everywhere.

The goal is to become effective somewhere, then build from there.

What is your primary marketing channel right now?
