Your Calendar Doesn’t Lie

Your calendar is one of the most honest mirrors you will ever look into. Many people say knowledge is important, yet spend two hours learning and sixty hours scrolling. Your words reveal your intentions. Your calendar reveals your priorities.

Many people say family is their highest priority, yet spend more time with coworkers, clients, and strangers online than with their spouse and children. Many people say the Ummah matters, yet weeks pass without dedicating even a small portion of time to serving it.

The reality is simple. Your calendar reveals your real priorities more accurately than your words.

Time is what cannot be recovered

Time is the one resource that cannot be recovered once it is spent. Money can be earned again. Businesses can be rebuilt. Opportunities can return. But yesterday will never come back.

Al-Hasan Al-Basri رحمه الله said:

"O son of Adam, you are nothing but a collection of days. Whenever a day passes, a part of you passes away."

How a Muslim uses time

The Muslim understands that time is an amanah from Allah سبحانه وتعالى. He does not live randomly. He does not allow notifications, distractions, and other people to govern his schedule. He intentionally allocates time for:

  • Salah
  • Qur'an
  • Family
  • Work
  • Learning
  • Health
  • Serving Muslims

Because a person rarely becomes what they intend to become. They usually become what they consistently make time for.

The mirror test

Your calendar speaks truth your mouth may hide. It does not lie about what you value. It does not rationalize or make excuses. It simply shows where your hours went.

  • If your calendar is empty of Qur'an time, Qur'an is not your priority.
  • If your calendar has no family time, family is not your priority.
  • If your calendar has no time for serving others, service is not your priority.

If someone examined your calendar from the last thirty days, what priorities would they conclude are governing your life?
